Today we celebrated a friend's 4th birthday! We made her a giant birthday card and crown, and she shared a treat of DD Munchkins after lunch. What a great way to brighten up our Wednesday!
Our bat habitat is beginning to take shape. In the coming days, the children will work on building a bat cave. We will also be making happy flappy bat headbands, so we can dress up like bats. Bats eat bugs and fruit, so you will find those bat snacks in our habitat too. We learned at morning meeting that our friends already know a lot about bats. We already know that bats are not birds, and they are nocturnal.
Our morning workshop tables were apple paint stamping, journaling, and apple investigation in the sensory table. At morning meeting we talked about our upcoming Halloween Ball and learned some new songs. We had a funny sing song circle today with lots of laughter. I think you will be able to tell which is our favorite song the night of the Halloween Ball. The Halloween Ball is also known as Pumpkins on Parade.
Our snack was cucumbers, grape tomatoes, hummus and pita bread. After snack, we broke into groups and set about ordering by size our apples picked from our after school trip. Judging small, medium and big can be tricky, especially with some lopsided apples! We stretched our brains a bit to figure our a way to tell which is the biggest apple other than by guessing with our eyes. We learned how to use a scale to measure the weight of the apples, just like at the grocery store.
We were in a Halloween mood today, so we dove right in and acted out some of our favorite poems and story books today. Our gate has been set up in our reading area for the telling of 5 Little Pumpkins. Everyone got a turn to be a little pumpkin today! We also told the story of Big Pumpkin. This story comes with a fun soundtrack for a sing along.
We ended our day outside on the playground.
