October 11, 2019, Friday

Today we had a real live Dental Hygienist come to visit our school.  She talked to the children about the importance of caring for their teeth and gave us some really good tips about how to care for ourselves.  This week, in honor of the letter T, we have had a dental office set up to study teeth.  You will find some fun prizes in your child's backpack from the dental office that came for a visit.

After our visitor, we had a snack of pretzels, yogurt, and grapes. We then headed outdoors to stretch our legs and breath fresh air.  The rakes came out because the leaves are starting fly!  The kitchen was set up by the sandbox so we could make sand pies and we had bikes galore.

We came in before lunch to open a pumpkin and investigate the insides!  We did not have many friends that wanted to dig through the slimy insides, but we offered.  We read PUMPKIN JACK, which is a fantastic story about a boy who misses his jack-o-lantern and watches it rot away slowly, but is delighted in the end when the seeds turn into a new pumpkin.  We try every year to have a pumpkin jack of our own.  We watch a pumpkin rot and then return the seeds to the earth in hopes of a new pumpkin the next year.  Believe it or not, one year we got 5 pumpkins that returned!  You just never know, it's all about faith.

We painted big pumpkins.  It was a science experiment as we mixed two colors together to make orange for the pumpkin.  Next week we will choose shapes to make a jack-o-lantern face for them.  Imagine that, a science and math lesson packed into that fun painting project!  This project also goes along with our story,BIG PUMPKIN, that we acted out to a story CD.  We ended our day dancing to Laurie Berkner's Monster Boogie music.  The children painted their our own story monsters too.

Please be sure to check out the Parent Committee (PC) Minutes that went out today. Hope you can join us at our next meeting in November 13th. We will be preparing for the big Thanksgiving Feast!

We are CLOSED Monday for Columbus Day. Have a marvelous holiday weekend!
