Fun Friday! That is what we call Pizza Day at EDS. All of the children enjoyed pizza today. Lunch boxes that were packed did stay in the cubbies. We opened some fun new stations for Fun Friday during workshop. We offered Alphabet Letter bubbles that were actually floating in bubbles, ocean sand, deedle bopper painting and play dough. Our paintings were still too wet at dismissal to pack home. They will go in their backpacks on Monday.
At morning meeting, after our Tweet and Greet where our friends place their tweety birds in their special bird houses, we introduced the letter M. We practiced writing the letter with our pointer fingers and identified words that begin with the letter M sound. We met Mat Man (3 Ms there!) and listened to a song about his body. The teachers modeled building Mat Man first and then the children were invited to choose a body part, and we built him again to the Mat Man Song.
Snack today was oranges, yogurt, and graham crackers. After snack we met at the reading rug and listened to a story to music called I AM A PIZZA. A perfect song for pizza day! We then went outdoors for a run about. Bikes and scooters were in high demand! We also had open the sand box, teeter totter, slide, bouncy balls, horses and chalk. During outdoor time, we took turns going into Abouna's office (Abouna means priest in Arabic and that is the lovely name we call Miss Della) to see her new guppie fish babies on her desk. They were so teeny, tiny that it was difficult to find them all! What fun.
After pizza lunch with broccoli, we met in the math room for another story. TEN IN THE BED. Another great story to music that we sang ourselves. We exercised our brains talking about numbers and counting backwards!
Our special journal books were introduced today. They drew Mat Man on the first page. We talked about our special drawing journals and how they will be out in the morning for workshop everyday. The children are free to draw in them, and our families are always free to look at their journals too.
What a terrific first week we have had! The children have done very well. This is such a magical time for our little friends, and they had to soak up a lot of new information this week. If you have any concerns at all, we welcome questions. No question is too silly. We are happy to hear from you if there is anything about our school day your child has talked about that you are wondering about.
Just a reminder to send in those SUPER FAMILY CAPES. This is a simple project that was in their folders at open house. Please put a family picture on the cape that the children can share with their friends. It is also comforting to the children that are having a lonely day to take a moment to look at their family picture. It cheers them right up!
