September 5, 2019, Thursday

Happy First Day to our Thursday class! A friend was also celebrating his 4th birthday today!  How exciting to start preschool on such a special day.  We have an EDS tradition of tracing our growing bodies on a large piece of paper for all of our school friends to decorate with crayons and markers.  It is a very festive activity to celebrate our friends.  Our birthday boy also shared an ice cream treat after lunch with everyone.

We had a lively start to our day.  Our new friends did a great job comforting Moms before they left for the afternoon and got busy exploring all that our classroom had to offer.  Our morning workshop tables change from morning to morning.  Today we offered play dough, beading, drawing and Critter tree house.  The bell rang, and we all got a special clean up badge to tidy up before morning meeting on our stage.  At morning meeting we had our Tweet and Greet where all receive a tweety bird with their face on it and match it to the birdhouse with their name on it on our board.  This is a great way for all of us to meet and learn each other's names.  Next the Hickory Dickory Dock clock mouse scurried around our daily schedule to let everyone know what we have planned for our day.  We danced to the Freeze and the Beatle's Birthday Song before heading to snack.  This week we begin simply with a lot of play so the children can ease back into our structured routine.  You will find in your child's backpack a special first day page to let you know what your child enjoyed most about their day.

Snack was apples, yogurt an goldfish crackers.  After snack we met on the story rug for the story PLANT A KISS.  We were then ready to get outdoors for some fresh air.  What a great breeze we enjoyed today!  We set out the slide, teeter totter, bikes and scooters, bouncy balls, chalk and had sandbox play.

After lunch we met in our math center to talk about our special number and shape for September.  You can ask your child if they remember what it is.  No reason for alarm if it has slipped their mind!  This is a very full day of remembering new things.  You can check it out on our math room bulletin board.  Super Dog flew in for a quick visit with lots of doggie puppet licks and nuzzles.  We listened very nicely to the story Mae's First Day of Preschool.  Afterward we had a fun discussion about how brave and excited we all were to come for our first day of school at EDS!

We ended our day outside on the lawn running in the breeze!  A find way to end the day.
