Happy 1st Day! Wednesday, September 4th 2019

Superheroes Indeed!  We have had a super start to our school year! Our returning friends remembered our routines and were happy to help our friends new to EDS.  This can be a challenging day after a long summer, but we were met with a bunch of smiles throughout the day!  Great job parents on preparing them!

We eased into our day with free choice play.  Our morning workshop tables included play dough, drawing and dots, and critter tree house.  When the morning bell rang, all of our friends got a clean up badge assigning them a special place to help tidy our classroom.  What fantastic helpers!  We then continued to morning meeting where we met everyone with a TWEET and GREET. They each get a bird with their picture on it and place the bird in the birdhouse with their name on it.  This is a fun name recognition exercise we will do each day.  We sang our Hickory Dickory Dock poem while the little mouse ran up and down the clock to tell us what was behind and ahead for our day.  We ended our meeting with music and movement to Laurie Berkner's MY ENERGY and Greg and Steve's I LIKE MUSIC.

Snack today was cheese sticks, fresh watermelon and pretzel chips. After snack we headed outdoors for fresh air and a breeze.  We will spend much time outdoors while we have these hot days.  Thank you for remembering those labelled water bottles!  Sunscreen is a great plan too.

Outdoor play included scooters, bikes, chalk for drawing, sandbox play, and bouncy balls.  The slide was set up and the teeter totter.

After lunch we met in the math room and talked about our shape of the month, the circle for our super circle of friends.  Our number of the month is 3.  We all met Super Dog who flew through the air to give nuzzles and doggie kisses.  (shhhhh super dog is really a puppet)  This was a great lead in to our story for the day, ABC Superheroes.  A fun story with many letter sounds and funny superheroes.

Our day flew by!  Please remember to check your child's communication folder and sign off on the daily sheet to be returned to school.  You will also find a page telling you what their favorite part of the day was today.

We ended outdoors in the sunshine.  We had a while to play on the outdoor equipment and then we all worked together to clean up our school yard.  We did an end of the day cheer with all hands in.  We also played one of our favorite imagination games on the stairs of the church.  We take turns, each friend gets to choose to drive some sort of vehicle to somewhere!  For instance, one friend chose a tractor to drive to the farm to pet the animals!  Once we get to where we are going, they all run out into the yard and pretend to do whatever it is we need to do and then run back to the stairs for the next turn!  A simple game we made up some time ago, and it is a winner every time.  We laugh and laugh...run and run...and best of all, we stretch our brains to come up with fun journeys.  So, we will end here with the thought that our year will be filled with fun journeys together!
