September 24, 2019, Tuesday

It's apple week at EDS.  We are celebrating Johnny Appleseed's birthday all week (his true birthday is Thursday, September 26).  We sang the Johnny Appleseed song all day, so you may hear a few verses at home.  At morning workshop we had apple counter cards, bone painting and floam.  Our housekeeping area is now part Apple Market where the children can make apple pies or apple cider.

At morning meeting our falling leaves were back whirling and swirling around our meeting rug in celebration of the first week of fall.  We talked about our upcoming events after our tweet and greet.  We are all excited for our family picnic on Thursday evening.  We danced to Dem Bones.

Our snack was banana bread, fresh cut apples with peanut butter and cheese sticks.  After snack we listened to a story about Johnny Appleseed and talked about why he wore a pot on his head like a hat.  We all had our picture taken dressing like Johnny Appleseed.   We then headed outside for some fresh air and sunshine.

Outside we investigated apples, we talked about what we know about apples and what color apples can be.  We then took turns placing an apple in the water table to see if our apples would sink or float.  We learned that if there was enough water in the water table, the apples would float.  If there was shallow water, they would not float.

After lunch we read our Superhero ABC book and shared our superhero name for our capes that we will be wearing at our family picnic.  Your child can wear their cape home from the picnic.

We ended our day outdoors playing Red Rover, Red Rover.  This is a fun game to help learn all of our friend's names.
