Whoosh...just like that, we have completed our first week of school! Our morning workshop tables were mini solo cup and cube building, craft stick raceway with race cars ( a great exercise in creativity, fine motor development and eye hand coordination to drive those race cars on a stick).
At morning meeting we had our tweet and greet and a friend volunteered to be our hickory dickory dock clock mouse to review our plans for the day. We danced to a Dance Medley. We had a special visitor today after our snack of goldfish crackers, carrots and cantelope melon (all very orange!). Dr. Jenn visited our classroom and read some stories today about courage and bravery. She introduced the Courage Cape that will have its own special cubby for any time one of our friends may be feeling uncertain and need a bit of extra courage. We always love a visit from Dr. Jenn! She just happens to be our upstairs neighbor too.
It was a lovely breezy day for outdoor recess. We forgot to take out the kites! Yikes! Kites would have been perfect today for the playground. We did have bikes, which are always in demand, and the teeter totter, slide, sandbox, bouncy balls, and chalk.
After lunch, we got busy choosing our cape for our Superhero ABC project. We hope to complete decorating them in time for the family picnic where we will read the story and introduce our caped crusaders. This will be a fun time. However, if your child is feeling a bit shy and is not comfortable joining the alphabet fun, that will be OK. You may accompany your child to the alphabet line or choose to just sit out and enjoy watching the story. These types of programs can be overwhelming for some children. We will be practicing during our school day, so they will have enjoyed the story during that time.
We worked on our number graph, "HOW MANY LETTERS IN YOUR NAME" today also. You can see this graph on the bulletin board in our math room.
Before we knew it, our DAY IS DONE song was playing by Peter, Paul and Mary. We gathered our belongings and headed back into the sunshine. What a glorious day! Thank you to all that have sent in their family super hero capes! If you have misplaced your cape paper, please just let us know and we will give you another copy. We would love for everyone to have a family picture hanging in the classroom. The children really do look at them together and enjoy seeing their family faces during their school day.
Thank you to those who attended our Parent Committee meeting today! Minutes will be emailed to all families soon. In the meantime, please be on the lookout for an email called Perfect Potluck, this is the online event food sign up system we use throughout the year at EDS.
