September 10, 2019, Tuesday

Leaping Lizards, Batman, we had a busy day!  Our superheroes started their morning checking out our Superhero Headquarters, building with pipes, and painting hand prints.  We also had farmyard set up for play.  Journals were available for drawing.

At morning meeting, we talked about the letter M and built Mat Man.  Mat Man is the introduction to Handwriting Without Tears (Now Learning Without Tears).  It is a song that uses the wooden pieces to build a body. We talk about the wooden pieces that are long lines and short lines,  big curves and  little curves.  By using these few lines, we can make anything!  There is a Mat Man song that guides us in building his body.  Soon we will be using these same pieces to build letters.

Our snack today was fresh assorted fruit, pretzels, carrots and hummus.  After snack we met together on the story rug and talked about why we have rules at school and why they might be different from some rules at home.  We then took a tour of our school and learned what each center is named and what sorts of activities we do in each center. The children are doing a wonderful job of settling into our routine.

We had another fine day for outdoor play.  The children rode bikes, played on the slide and teeter totter.  Sandbox was open, balls and bouncy balls were out, too.

After lunch we read Superhero ABC and learned how we are going to make the story come alive.  Our friends picked a letter bubble out of our water table to learn what letter will be on their Superhero cape.  Everyone will get their very own cape to decorate with their letter on it.  We hope to model our capes at the family picnic coming up on September 26th.  We also are working on our class book.  This will be a flap book.  The flap is a superhero mask decorated by each of our friends to cover their face pictured on a page in the book.  We have to guess who our friends are before lifting the mask.  The book will be sent home in a special bag to be shared by each family.
