April 30, 2019, Tuesday

We were delighted to come in to find 8 chicks total had hatched over night!  You may see a video of one little chick pop out of his shell on our EDS Facebook parent page.  One of our friends today got to see another chick hatch right before their eyes.  It is such an exciting thing to witness.  So, at the end of today, we had 9 chicks hatched.  We are hopeful for the remaining 4 eggs.  We shall see in the morning.  The lucky egg marked with an X has not hatched yet.  That is the egg that was laid here at school by the visiting chicken.

At morning meeting we talked about our EDS graduates that are moving on to kindergarten.  They will be working on some special projects preparing for our ceremony.  Please send in your white T-shirts as soon as you can.  Thank you.  We opened our last magic egg today to reveal a little chick!  We have ended our count down.  The chicks will be kept under a heat lamp in the Science Room in a special box.  We have asked the children to sit in the 2 chairs in the room to view the chicks.  Parents are welcome to view the chicks, but we would appreciate your having your child follow our rule for their safety as well as the chicks' safety.  After a few days, we will give the children a chance to hold a chick.  They need some time to gain some strength and resilience.

We are now anxiously awaiting our butterflies.  We have a butterfly table set up with caterpillars to keep watch over.  Soon they will spin a chrysalis and dangle from the top of the special jar they are in.  This process should take around 20 days.

Our snack was oranges and pretzel cracker trail mix.

The rain held off for us to have outdoor recess today.

After lunch we worked on a special project that will be coming home soon.  We also recorded a chick observation in our chick journals.  We studied the letter V today.  Our story today was WHAT IF THE DINOSAURS CAME BACK.
