March 19, 2019, Tuesday

Jumpin' Monkeys!  Our morning workshop was all about the letter J today.  We glued jewels on a letter J, and played a catapulting game, putting our Force and Motion studies into action.  If you could catapult a monkey into a tree, you got a banana.

Our snack was applesauce and pretzels today.  After snack we had morning meeting.  Our question of the day was, "Do you like Spiders?"  We were 50/50 on that.  We read the story, THE LION AND THE LITTLE RED BIRD, which is a delightful story about the unlikely friendship formed by a lion and a bird.  The bird sings day to day while watching the lion emerges from its cave after a night's sleep with a different tail color.  The bird would chirp and ask the lion why its tail was a different color.  Meanwhile the lion enjoyed the bird's chirping, but could not understand what the bird was asking.  A bad storm comes and the lion, worried about the bird, brings it inside his cave.  It is then that the bird discovers that the lion had been painting a beautiful picture with its tail. A lovely story with beautiful vocabulary as well.

At center time we worked on the letter J in our HWT workbooks and continued our art show projects.  After lunch, we had a splendid time on a group project painting.  It was that rare magic where everyone was immersed in the same action, working cooperatively, laughing, interacting, concentrating and independently working all at once!  They were free to move around, paint with what color they wanted, paint with what tool they wanted, and most importantly have fun.  So, that explains the paint in their hair, on their feet and socks (we took our shoes off), and on their hands and clothes.  It is all washable paint.  We played Keb' Mo blues and danced around the paint a bit too,  We are looking forward to doing it all again tomorrow.  This creation will be a silent auction piece.
