March 13, 2019, Wednesday

"Painting is self-discovery.  Every good artist paints what he is. - Jackson Pollock."  We have been talking a lot about Jackson Pollack.  This morning we finally got to paint like Jackson Pollock.  Our guest artists, Ms. Hera Tar and Little Miss Madeline Mazza, lead us in a group splatter painting experience! Thank you to our guest artists, we enjoyed ourselves so much!  Just like our mice in the story MOUSE PAINT, we left a blank spot on the paper for our friends that were not here today to fill in.

Our morning workshop tables were play dough and icy snow in our sensory table.  Much of our morning workshop time is also being spent for quick finishing touches on our art show projects.  These are quick gluing or painting spots that do not take a lot of time from their play.  That free play hour in the morning is very important!

Our snack today was carrots and Pirate Booty.  After snack we took some time on the rug to look at Picasso Posters.  We talked a bit about his style of painting.  Some of our friends felt they were scary, some funny. We welcome all their reactions and opinions, as our teaching goal is for them to realize that art makes us feel, art affects us all differently and that is okay.  Even if we do not like someone's art, that is fine as long as we are respectful about our opinion.

We have been working on our art aprons.  We have different art work groups.  Some are splatter painting aprons and some are tie-dying aprons.  You can tell which ones are doing which by the colors on their finger tips!  We are wearing gloves, but some of the dye goes through.

We went outdoors to play today.  It was not so muddy.
