March 11, 2019, Monday

We have had an industrious Monday!  You would never know we lost that hour with daylight saving time.  Our morning workshop tables were busy with shaving cream painting, play dough, and building the letter W with straws on paper.  Our artist table was painting still life Cezanne style.

Mother Anita held Godly Play today.  She told the story of Lent.  Right after that story, we had a fire drill.  We paraded over to the parking lot in good time, took attendance, and headed right back into the school for snack.  Our snack was applesauce/mixed berry and granola bars.

We went outdoors to enjoy the sunshine and the warmer day.  It was so springlike, we decided to stay outside an extra 30 minutes!  Everyone was enjoying their play so much, it would have been sad to go back in doors.

After lunch we met on the morning meeting rug to talk about our feature artist this week.  We read the story of Jackson Pollack.  It is an intriguing story book that draws you into his feelings and emotions when he paints by telling you how he prepares and what he does before he begins a piece of art. The story tells of his sitting and staring at the ocean for along time before going to his art studio. He uses unusual tools like sticks, brushes, ladders and his hands to throw the paint.  He allows natural occurrences to become part of the painting.  In the storybook, a fly got stuck on the canvas...and he painted right over it!  Later this week, we will paint like Jackson Pollack..minus the fly.

We danced to The Color Song and then studied our Color Wheel Collage that we are building as a collaborative art piece.  It is coming along wonderfully.  Great texture! Thank you for all the wonderful items you are sending in.

We worked in our HWT workbook on the W page.  You can ask your child what the picture was on the page that started with W, it is ok if they do not remember...such a busy day we had!  We also continued our art show work, then back outside into the glorious sunshine to end our day.
