March 1, 2019, Friday

Art month begins!  At morning meeting we talked about what an Artist is...anyone that can imagine and create, of course.  We all have the ability to be an Artist.  We will be getting deeper into our discussion of what is considered an art creation or form.  We will also discuss some of the elements of art such as texture, color, line, and shape .  We looked at a book of paintings featured at the Boston Museum of Arts.  One page was the painting and the opposite page was a color page of an item in the painting.  Later, our friends got to choose what painting in the book they liked the best.  We all have a different eye for art.

Many friends drew with oil pastels at morning workshop.  We also introduced a deck of cards and solo cups as new elements in our Science room for balance play.  We have created our own scale for balance play, and now we can experiment making different kinds of towers!

Our snack was bagels and oranges.  After snack we shared a story, IT LOOKED LIKE SPILT MILK and the book GREEN.  Our question of the day was, "Do you like the color green?"  Many of our friends do!

At center time we built Mat Man.  This is a Handwriting Without Tears exercise using lines and curves to build a body to music.  We talked about connecting feet to legs and hands to arms, where our eyes, ears, nose and mouth are positioned on our head.  We are going to be doing a lot of drawing and painting of ourselves and other people, and this exercise helps us to think about how to go about drawing bodies!

We went outdoors for fresh air.  We still had a bit of snow to play with.

After lunch we met in the Math Room to talk about our new shape of the month, Rectangle.

Parent Advisory Board meets Monday at 8 am! Happy weekend :)
