Let it snow! We thought it would never arrive! We were hoping for some flakes during recess, but no such luck. Our friends were happy to get at least a few minutes of snow play together before we all went home.
Today we talked about why we celebrate this day called St. Valentine's Day. We told the story of the priest named St. Valentine who was jailed by a Roman Emperor for secretly marrying army soldiers that were banned from marriage. We told the story through drawing which is always a fun way to watch a story unfold. The drawings do not have to be special, as you can see pictured below....just the process of watching words be put to a drawing can enliven the imagination. One of our daily goals, excite the imagination!
We all got involved in painting...all colors...just moving our brushes to fill a paper with color to make paper hearts to decorate for our ice cream social. We also sat as a community and worked on writing words, lovey words, to glue on our painted hearts. It is a bit wild, but so much fun to sit all together working toward a common goal. You often will see friends helping each other. We are all in different places with our writing, and we are learning that is fine. Music to a teacher's ears to hear a friend say, "I will help you," or "I can show you."
We enjoyed a snack of trail mix and apples while we watched intently out the windows for the snow to start.. After snack our Tuesday friends delivered their Valentine cards. We lined all of the beautiful bags up out in the library so we could easily place our cards in them.
After lunch we introduced the word and action of balance in our science room. We also learned a fun song about gravity and listened to two story books about balance. It will be fun to see the balancing experiments to come. Today we practiced balancing our bodies across the balance beam.
