Pumpkin Patch Eve! We are all excited about our trip away from school to the pumpkin farm. We are ready! We have been exploring pumpkins, talking about how they grow, and even watching them rot! We examined our rotting Pumpkin Jack today and drew a picture of it. You can see those in our Science Room.
We had more Halloween paint stamping set up today and continued work on our Scarecrows. The children had a choice of making a scarecrow puppet or a dingly dangly scarecrow. The dingly dangly scarecrow is a teacher collaborative art piece. Many challenge this type of process for this age, but we truly believe it has a great place in a young person's curriculum. The teacher and child spend some time talking about the project. This is an exercise of back and forth conversation, as well as making connections to our stories as well as with each other. We talk about the story that we first met the scarecrow and then it is somewhat of an interview process of what type of scarecrow they would like to create. For instance they could choose a traditional face or the pumpkin face from our story. They designed the hat, shirt and pants and did a tremendous amount of cutting for the project..growing those fine motor muscles! Some found the joy of a hole puncher! That tool really takes some muscle power. We took our time and talked about how to piece him together. They each are an individual expression. We hope you enjoy them!
Our snack was grapes and berries with Popcorn. Our stories were 10 LITTLE PUMPKINS and SCAREDYCROW. Scaredycrow was a funny story about a scarecrow that was afraid of the animals that he was supposed to be scaring. Everyone was scared of each other until a little mouse moves in to the farm and encourages everyone to talk to each other. Everyone becomes fast friends until the farmer puts up a new scarecrow and that is where it ends. The story creates a lot of good follow up conversation about making friends.
We spent a lot of time out doors in the sunshine! We brought the Ponies outside for P week Play! It was also a great day to bring out the Parrot kites, we had a fun gentle wind going for those!
