September 25, 2018, Tuesday

Apples, peaches, pumpkin pie...my oh my!  What a fun morning we had.  Miss Terri set up an apple window light catcher table.  They look so pretty hanging in our math room window.  If you travel up South Baptist Street, look up, I bet they look great from the street view too.  We did more balancing and weighing apples.  We played a fun shape domino game and read an eye spy and counting shapes book.  Everyone was busily playing, we lost track of time and decided to reverse track and have snack before morning meeting.  A friend noticed that our snack was all the color orange.  We had oranges, carrots and goldfish crackers with hummus on the side.

At morning meeting we read THE BIGGEST APPLE EVER. We recited our weather poem and charted today's weather.  We talked about our plan for the day which included apple tasting, making labels for our applesauce jars to be sold at the church fair, and a count and color page.  If you were curious what your child's favorite apple choice is of Red Delicious, Green Granny Smith, or Yellow Golden Delicious, you will find a coloring page in their folder.

Due to the inclement weather, we had indoor recess.  We played tinker toys, tubes, farm (and sang OLD MCDONALD HAD A FARM), Hula Hoops and puzzles too.

After lunch, we acted out a story called MELODY THE MUSICAL BUS.  We all piled on our bus in the classroom for this tale.  We talked about our experiences riding a bus or watching a bus and what some of the rules are when you ride on a bus.  We also talked about what a bus monitor and crossing guard does.  The children knew a lot about a school bus.  The story was a simple one about an old bus that rattled and squeaked down the road.  It made a sort of music (as did the children with rattles and tamborines to make the bus sound).  She had a beloved driver that took good care of her, but one day he did not show up for work.  Melody did not sound the same driving down the road.  She delighted when days later her regular bus driver returned.  A simple story with not much plot, but certainly an emotion that we can all relate to.  There are special people in our lives and when they go away, we miss them and our music is not the same.

We read 10 Apples On Top and painted just that many on top of our head.  We continued working on our stick families.  Once they are all created, we plan to build block houses for them.  Our challenge will be to see how we can get the sticks to stand upright in the houses....hmmm one of those great STEM activities.

We ended our day playing another game that involved choosing a paint brush color and painting something in the room that matches that color.  It is always fun to see what our friends choose to paint.

Friendly reminder about the Back to School Picnic Thursday night 5-7 pm.
