We are continuing our fun with apples this week. Our morning workshop tables were set up to try your luck at balancing apples on different sized tubes. There were two different kind of scales to weigh the apples too. We also had an apple color matching game. The balancing activity was a good introduction to our story of the day, 10 Apples on Top, pictured below.
Today was our first Chapel Time of the school year. Mother Anita met with the children in the Godly Play Room for story time. Today she displayed and talked about the church calendar that pictures when special stories and events in the Bible happen in the year. Chapel takes the place of our morning meeting on Mondays and Thursdays.
After chapel the children had a snack of fresh strawberries, granola balls, and goldfish crackers. We then went outdoors for recess. We actually needed a light sweater or jacket today. Fall has indeed begun.
After lunch the children painted 10 apples on top of their head. You can view these paintings displayed in the block room. What a fun way to practice counting and one-to-one correspondence.
We ended our day outdoors. Ring Around the Rosie has been our favorite outdoor game lately. We also love to play bus on the church steps. It is a game using solely the imagination. Anyone can be the driver. We take turns deciding where the bus is taking us all. When the bus stops, the children run and run and run into the yard, they make believe they are at the destination and then run back to the bus and jump on for the next adventure. A sheer delight and so rich for their cognitive development to be pretending with nothing but their mind! Trust me, it is the best sort of play. So when you see them running to and from the steps...you know good things are happening.
A brief reminder to mark your calendars for Thursday, September 27, at 5 pm for our Back to School Picnic!
