The Saint Patrick's Day Parade may be cancelled, but our Irish spirit is strong! We painted shamrocks this morning with giant marshmallows and green paint on green paper, of course! We also used a heart shaped stamp to stamp three leaves, being careful to kiss the points and turn the stamp, a real exercise in crossing the midline and symmetry.
Our sculpture creation continued this morning, all so different and fun to look at! We had a pad lock table set up for find the W key. This is a fun literacy set for matching capital letter locks to lowercase letter keys to open the lock.
We celebrated a friend's 5th birthday today. We created a giant birthday card for him. He shared shamrock mini cupcakes with us after lunch. At morning meeting we had a fun dance circle to the Beatle's song, Today is Your Birthday.
Our snack was veggie straws, grapes, and cucumbers. After snack we read three stories, The Color Wizard (we all had a magic wand for that story to change the colors), Red, Yellow, Blue, and also The Snail and the Whale. After the story, at center time, we had a science lesson mixing the colors yellow and blue on a shamrock to make green. We also had a math exercise with our shamrock painting, printing 3 leaves to practice writing our numbers on.
After lunch we had free play in the classroom on this very rainy day, and we continued working on our art show pieces narrating stories for our fairy tale paper dolls.
