Hearts and hands this morning in honor of our letter H. We painted with our hands to make decorations for our upcoming Valentine's Day Ice Cream Social. Candy heart graphing was set up and tanagram pictures were open on workshop tables.
At morning meeting we had our tweet and greet. The letter H was introduced. We talked about its configuration and felt our breath on our hands as we recited some letter H words. We practiced our love songs and did some dancing too.
Snack was animal crackers and apple sauce. After snack we read The Story of Valentine's Day and A Kiss Like This. We split into our work groups and completed the Letter H page in our HWT workbooks. Friends that previously finished their H page were invited to make a helping hands page in their journals or cut a heart.
We went out doors for recess where we rode bikes, bounced on bouncy balls, played ball and frisbee, played in the sand box and practiced our hopping skills.
After lunch we met in the math room and talked about our shape of the month, a heart, of course! We demonstrated the symmetry of a heart by folding paper, drawing a curve shape, and then cutting to open to a heart shape, like magic. We then introduced the number 2 for our letter of the month. Our friends sponge painted 2 hearts for their math books. We also continued work on our fairy tale paper dolls.
We ended our day in the library listening to The Little Mermaid.
