We had little monkeys swinging from the trees this morning and I don't mean the children! We started our day with a fun game table that included catapulting monkeys onto a tree and a monkey tree version of Ker-plunk where you pull sticks out of a tree to see how many monkeys fall down. We also had a Rainforest Animal matching game and heart finger painting for our friends that missed that activity.
At morning meeting we had our tweet and greet where we met another new friend that came for a visit today. We talked about the letter G, how it is formed and what sound it makes. We practiced our Valentine songs and talked about our ice cream social. We danced about before we headed to snack time.
Snack was tangerines, cheese sticks, and crackers. After snack we read Gorilla Be Good, we formed the letter G with our wooden pieces. We learned a new song, L-O-V-E by Nat King Cole. Each child got a letter and listened for that letter in the song to hold up. We got a little dancey with it too. We enjoyed it so much, we decided to add it to our show tunes. We think you will enjoy it also.
We had indoor recess today. We split the group in half. One group had large motor activities in the library that included bike riding, tumbling mats, wheelie carts, and balls. The other group had free play in the classroom. We switched at the half hour so everyone had a turn for all of the fun.
After lunch we created fun headbands to wear on Valentine's Day. We danced to our Rainforest song using rhythm sticks and egg shakers. We learned about the four different layers of the rainforest. We then moved into our math room to work on building our new graph. We are graphing our favorite layer of the rainforest where we think we would like to live. So far, the emergent layer (very top) and the forest floor (very bottom) are tied.
We ended our day with a number search game. First we reviewed all of the number blocks by name. Then we hid them in the mail room where the children got to search for them. Everyone was to find one number and return it back to the math room where they would report which number they found.
