10 February 2020, Monday

This morning we had a visiting teacher, Miss Isabel, and Miss Kayla will be in for Miss Terri this week. Our friends always enjoy seeing a new face playing about the classroom!  Our morning workshop tables were magnetic dress up dolls, chalk boards and alphabet cards, and a game called Guess Who.

At morning meeting we had our tweet and greet.  We introduced the letter G.  We talked about its shape and sound.  We identified some pictures that began with the letter G.  Our Valentine's Day social is just days away, so we practiced our songs for that special event.

Snack today was fresh peppers with hummus and wheat pretzels. After snack we listened to a phonics story, Gorilla Be Good.  We then went into our groups to work on our letter G page.

We had outdoor recess today with sand play, bikes, and great game of chase.

After lunch we danced to our rain forest song.  We also played some rhythm sticks and used shakers for this lively song.  We then settled into a factual story about the rain forest and focused on the different layers of the rain forest.  Last week we talked about rain forests being close to the equator making it very warm and wet.  This week we will focus on the different layers, why there are different layers and what animals like which layer best.

We then read the story Goodnight Gorilla.  This is a funny picture book about a security guard who has his keys taken by a Gorilla who then proceeds to let all of the animals out of their cages.  The animals then follow the guard home and go to sleep in his house.  Mrs. Security Guard hears all of the different animals saying goodnight and wakes up to lead them all back to the zoo.  It is a silly story that is fun to act out.  You can ask you child which part they had in the re-enactment.  Everyone had a part.

We ended the day in the math room making up our new graph.  Our friends chose which layer of the rain forest they would like to live in.
