October 31, 2019, Halloween Thursday

Happy Halloween!  We had a festive day with two visitors!  The Audubon Society of Rhode Island came in the morning.  They talked to the children about bats and owls and how they are similar and how they are different.  They began with a story, BATS AT THE BEACH, and each child got a bat puppet to stretch their imagination while listening to the story.  After the story they got to explore a realbat that was mounted in a glass case.  They also got to touch real owl feathers.  Two friends volunteered to dress up as a bat and an owl so we could get a good look at how their bodies are different.  They ended their visit by introducing a real Barred owl that they rescued.  It was fascinating to just sit and watch the owl spread its wings, turn its neck almost 360 degrees, and look about the children.

Thank you to the Hearn family for preparing a festive snack today of tangerines colored like pumpkins, apple slice smiles with peanut butter and animal crackers.  We had indoor recess today as it was too soggy outside. We rode bikes and wheely carts, used pool noodles and plastic balls to play indoor animal croquet, and offered puzzles and building materials.

Our friends colored a special paper about what they liked best about the Audubon visit.

After lunch we went outdoors for a rainy day walk.  The sun actually peeked out for a minute.

We ended our day with Miss Abby.  She came dressed as a witch, and read a story about the biggest pumpkin ever.  The children colored pumpkin masks.  We ended our day with one last round of 5 Little Pumpkins sitting on a gate.  Everyone got a turn and we made magic happen this halloween...the lights went out just as we clapped our hands for "out went the lights"!

Wishing you a safe and Happy Halloween!
