January 9, 2019, Wednesday

Love is in the air already at EDS!  Today we did an early introduction to Valentine's Day at morning meeting.  Because we are making our trip to the Newport Post Office early in February (the 7th!), we need to get started on our special Valentines to mail in the real mail box at the Post Office Toot Sweet!  We began that project today.

Our morning workshop tables were salt sculpting, we modeled the letter Dd and our pentagon shape of the month to draw in the salt tray, play dough, I SPY the letter D tray, and Letter bubbles.  We also had spin-art-a-heart...we love to rhyme whenever we can!

At morning meeting we danced to Animal Action and did some calendar counting.  We also began a new name game.  Month or Day?  First we sing the relative songs, and then we call out the name of a month or a day and the children will try to distinguish which.  It's tricky for sure.

Snack was fresh veggies of carrots and cucumbers with hummus and Saltine Crackers.  After snack we met for the story Harry the Dirty Dog, pictured below. It is an old favorite that is the timeless tale of a doggie that gets so dirty his family does not recognize him.  We followed with a table activity of dirty dogs that needed a bath.  We continued working on our pet masks which will be featured in a class Fashion show during the Letter Ff week.  We plan to retain the masks for the Art Show in April.  After the art show, the children may take their masks home.

We went outdoors today for recess.

After lunch we continued our morning work.  Some friends worked on snowflakes to review the numbers 1 to 6.

We ended our day outside.
