September 18, 2018, Tuesday

It was Terrific Tuesday!  We had many special visitors today.  We had Moms cooking applesauce in the kitchen and Miss Cathy, the Newport Public Library Librarian, came to visit, too, to share some fun apple stories, felt board games, and a fun apple craft.  Many thanks to all of the volunteers that shared their time and talents in the kitchen with the children.  The school room sure smelled wonderful with all of those apples boiling!  The children enjoyed mashing apples and stirring in cinnamon and sugar.

At morning circle we talked about our adventure to the Rocky Brook Apple Orchard.  We investigated some of the apples we picked.  We talked about the simple things of wonder...how they smell, what apples feel like, and their beautiful colors.  Lastly all of the children got an apple, and we proceeded to line them up in order from largest to smallest.  It is trickier than it sounds, because we realized that apples come in all shapes too.  We will continue our apple investigation over the next few days.

After lunch we worked on our shape and weather graphs.   We had such a busy morning that we spent some free time in the afternoon playing in the classroom.  In this very warm, sticky weather it is good to take time to relax and unwind a bit.

Thankfully the rain held off and we got to have outdoor time.

A note from Miss Carissa- ** We have a report of Hand Foot & Mouth Virus at EDS, it is common in young children and we often see it in September. Please keep out for any symptoms your child and make sure you wash your hands often. Thank you!
