April 26, 2018, Thursday Chicken Day

Today our chicken eggs arrived with our friend Ms. Donna from Casey Farm in Jamestown.  She shared all her great knowledge about chickens and chicken farming.  We learned about chicken anatomy, habits and habitats!  We made chicken sounds and chicken motions. It was a wonderful time.  After our snack of yogurt and rice cakes, we counted 15 eggs going into our incubator.  There is a bright orange fence around the table with the incubator on it.  This helps us to remember what an exciting act of nature is happening right inside our science room.  It reminds us to use safe hands and quiet voices too.  You are welcome to view the incubator and eggs with your child and their siblings, we just ask that you be careful and respect our rules.  Thank you! In 21 days we should begin to hear cheeping and pecking!  Once the chicks hatch, we enjoy getting to know them for about 3 days before we return them to their home at Casey Farm on our field trip.
We went outdoors today.  While we were outside, we cut and painted chicken comb hats so we can dress up and act like chickens, this will make our little chicks feel right at home when they hatch.

Peek-a-boo
Lots of excitement on the building rug with Ms. Brianna.
We watched an informative slide show.
Our friends were very good listeners today for our guest!

 We met Henrietta the Hen!

We all got to feed her and pet her if we wanted to.  Everybody did!

The wind made this a bit of a challenge.
