January 2, 2018, Tuesday

Welcome back!  We had the perfect weather outdoors today to begin our Polar Unit!  The children had fun exploring all the new classroom changes to go with our new year.  We now have a "Question of the Day".  Today's question was, "Is it Winter?"  It was unanimous, yes, it is winter!  In preparation for winter, it is important to mention that EDS follows the Newport Public School System's closing policy.  If you see that Newport schools are closed, EDS will be closed also.  We are expecting significant snow on Thursday, so please check your local news station for closing information.

We love to play in the snow!  Please pack a snow gear bag for your child to include snow pants, waterproof mittens (or two pair of mittens if you do not yet have waterproof mittens), and be sure that boots are insulated please.  FYI regular Rain boots are often not insulated; however, Bog boots are insulated.

I would also like to mention here that the after-school program has resumed and will run every Tuesday and Thursday until 4 pm REGARDLESS OF THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN SIGNED UP.  If you are interested, please sign up in the after-school book when you drop off your child.

What is frozen in the iceberg today?
Exploring Polar animals.

Drawing my family is always fun.
We read the book WINTER, before we asked our question of the day.

Who is in our Mystery Box today?  It only took two clues!  Penny the Penguin!
We learned a new penguin dance song.  The words are below.

We studied the letter Q today.
Indoor recess today.  Too cold to be outside!  We did a lot of play acting as Parent and Baby!  It was particularly fun when it came time to burp the baby...lots of giggles by all!

We created our paper Earth preparing to build the Polar caps.
