These very warm sunny days have been encouraging for our Ocean discussions. We have shared our favorite ocean animals, talked about the name of the ocean that is very close to us, and used our sense of touch to guess what ocean objects were hidden in our Mystery Box. Our EDS Ocean is coming to life with amazing colorful fish prints painted by our oceanographers. Your child may have told you that we ate the ocean for snack one day! They created an edible beach on Wed. Graham cracker sand, blue yogurt for water and goldfish, yum. Thur, our friends around the corner at the International Yacht Restoration School would be proud as we designed sail boats for our water table ocean. Hmmm, some boats tipped over in the water....our question was, "how do we fix that"? Be on the look out for our SEA OF FRIENDS book published by EDS. This book will be sent home with a child as their turn comes around. Please read it together, enjoy, and return it to EDS on your next school day. Keep those family selfies rolling in for our WE ARE A SCHOOL FAMILY board. More ocean fun to come! Miss Cathy from the Newport Public Library visits Wednesday, Sep 20, with some ocean stories. On Tues, Sep 19, our fish tank will arrive and be stocked with Guppies. Thank you Mr. Leialoha. On Sep 27, a marine biologist will visit our school to talk about fish anatomy. Thank you Mrs. Anderson.
Aside from our ocean discovery, we have been practicing our recycling abilities. Miss Kathryn, I mean Miss Recycle, visited and read Michael Recycle She played several games with the class that challenged their sorting and counting skills. What a wonderful lesson. You may have seen the green recycle symbol come home made out of painted hand prints. On Sep 19, the Newport Firemen will visit EDS to talk about fire safety. These visits lend themselves nicely to our always ongoing discussions about being a part of a community and how we all can help one another.
Please let me suggest that you give your child another big hug and tell them how proud you are of how well they are doing at EDS! Miss Kate, Miss Terri, and Mrs. Birch are so proud of them all too!
In closing, may I remind that on these very hot last days of the summer season, please dress the wee ones in a short sleeve shirt. The EDS t-shirt provided is legal. Sweaters for the morning chill. Thank you all for your continued support of EDS.
