6 March 2020, Friday

Easels were busy this morning with free painting, green play dough with shamrock cutters and scissors were out and brick blocks and zoo animals were set up for building.  At morning meeting we talked about our field trip to the Newport Art Museum.  All of the children said they had fun and would like to go again!  The sculpture with the worms at the bottom was for sure a hit with a majority of our friends.  We also tracked our Lion or Lamb day adding two more checks to the Lamb chart for today and yesterday.

Snack was goldfish crackers and chickpea crackers with purple grapes.  After snack, we introduced Leonardo Davinci and talked about how he was an artist with many talents that included painting, drawing and sculpture.  He was also a mathematician and engineer.  We talked a bit about DaVinci's famous painting, the Mona Lisa.  We also introduced Pablo Picasso and learned that he would paint what he thinks and not what he sees.  We contrasted him to Cezanne who would paint still life objects, real objects in front of him that he would study with his eyes.  Some friends got a chance to peek through a fun photo booth we have for the art show where they were the face of the Mona Lisa or the face of a Picasso.

We had outdoor recess.  The sandbox was open, hoppers and bouncey balls and bubbles were available for play.  The slide and teeter totter were out as well as our new chalk.

After lunch we told the story of Mouse paint, studying those color combination that mix to make new colors.  We have fun story props to act out this colorful tale.  Everyone got a turn to act out the story.

We ended our day in the library talking about our weekend plans!
