We had a merry start back from our Thanksgiving vacation! It was a friend's 5th birthday today! We made him a special birthday poster and sang to him, and he shared a mini cupcake treat with us after lunch. What a fun way to kick off our Christmas season at school. Especially since we shared the Christmas story and how the reason for the season is the birthday of a very special baby named Jesus. At morning meeting we read the story of Christmas and talked about our parts for the pageant. We also introduced the letter R today.
Soon our classroom will be bursting with Christmas decorations and twinkling lights. This morning the children made a special string of Christmas lights with painted fingerprints for the bulbs. They are hanging in the math room. There was a Christmas collage station set up with holiday cards to cut and glue onto paper. The children also worked on a special letter to Santa Claus.
Our snack was cheese sticks, oranges and goldfish crackers mixed with popcorn. After snack we read a story, Elf on a Shelf. During work groups we worked in our HWT workbooks on the letter R page and the number 8 page.
We had indoor play recess today. It was too rainy and cold to play outside. We all wished the snow had stayed around for us to play in!
After lunch we listened to our new Christmas pageant songs that we will be learning. We finished our work projects and then met in the math room. We made a new graph. The question was, "Do you think Santa goes down the chimney feet first or head first"? So far, the majority feels he goes down feet first, so that is how he will be pictured in our Christmas house.
