HAPPY SUMMER VACATION!

Today is our last regular Zoom meeting.  We will send out an email with a Zoom invitation to view our butterfly release into the wilds.

STORY TIME

What is your favorite summer activity?  Can you draw a picture of that activity?

One of our favorite stories about the beach!

When we go to the beach, we often see a lot of sea gulls!  You can make a paper sea gull with a paper plate. Start by folding a paper plate in half.  You can also use a piece of paper in the shape of a circle.

Watch out!  Your sea gull might steal your snack!

MATH

I wonder how much taller you will grow over the summer?  Take a measurement of your body from head to foot.  You can use any sort of rope or ribbon and get a helper to cut the string the size of your body and store it in a baggie until September; or you can use blocks and lay them out the length of your body and then count the blocks, write the number of blocks down, store the paper in a special place until September. Can you think of another unit of measure?  (Like matchbox cars, marbles or seashells!)  Repeat the same measurement in September to see how much you have grown!  You could store it in your EDS portfolio book that will be returned to you soon.

I wonder if you will eat more ice cream or s'mores over the summertime?  Can you make a graph?  Fold a piece of paper in half length wise, open it up and draw a line on the crease.  On one side draw an ice cream cone and on the other a s'more (or 2 different summer treats like watermelon or strawberries, whatever your favorite summer snack might be).  In September add up each column to see which one is more.

SCIENCE

Today we put all 5 chrysalises into the butterfly tent.  Now we wait about 7 to 10 days for the butterflies to emerge.  4 are attached to the lid and one is on the floor of the tent on a spoon.  We will notify you all when it is time to release the butterflies into the wild.

Watch the summer night sky.  In your summer travels, look up when it is dark.  Will you see a lot of stars or no stars?  Can you see the moon, and if so, what shape is it?
