February 16, 2018, Friday

Happy Chinese New Year.  It is the year of the dog.  We studied about Chinese New Year.  We read a special story book about the celebration.  After the story we designed our own Chinese New Year Parade.  We played traditional music, all the children dressed up and some played instruments.  Everyone took turns leading the dragon parade.  Each got to wear the fancy lion headdress.  It took some engineering skill to hold up the bright red drape over all of us marching and to pace ourselves in steps just right to stay together.  It was so much fun!  We enjoyed it so much, we wanted to show off our new skill at the end of the day and do a parade for the families.  What a wonderful way to end our school day and begin our vacation week!

Our snack was fruit, fruit and more fruit!  Strawberries, apples, grapes and yogurt.  We had Chinese food for lunch with our pizza, of course!  Lo Mein, chicken fried rice and chicken tempura!  Special sauces, too, we learned their names.  The brown one is soy sauce and the orange one is duck sauce.

Morning free choice.

We had a friend do the birthday poem today.
Some of us made special books during free choice.  This one is about his grandparents that are visiting.
It is very special to be able share books that we created ourselves.

This book is about a very special owl.  If you look closely, you can see there is a big heart drawn around the owl.  What a wonderful cover.

Snack time if a very fun part of our day.  We love conversation together.

Ms. Kate snuck up into the loft for a fun picture!
 Hello up there!

Setting up our Chinese dragon parade.
It was tricky, but we all worked together and made it wonderful.
Everyone got a chance to lead.
