Good Afternoon!
Looks like a wacky weather week, we are going out rain or shine! Wear your boots and hooded coats!
April Movie Night is on the April 21st, not the 7th like the flyer said. Oops.
Today we introduced the Tattle Phone!
At this time in the school year most of our students have mastered our routine and have developed close relationships with their peers. They feel so comfortable with each other that sometimes they act more like siblings :) This can lead to some typical conflicts.
We have worked over the course of the year on a social emotional curriculum that empowers your child to use words to solve conflicts express needs and feelings and respond to friends needs. Because of this, we are encouraging our students to use their skills to independently and confidently to solve conflicts with peers. So we are now talking about tattles. A tattle is when a child tells a teacher something that they can solve themselves with the tools and skills they have learned. Ex: "I saw Lucy running," "Johnny knocked over my tower", "Sally didn't wash her hands."
We talk about telling teachers if something is dangerous ( ex: sitting on table, leaving the school) or destructive (ex: breaking or throwing toys). Our children also know that if something is bothering them and words are not working they can always come to us for extra help. We are always listening and watching and get involved immediately when they need our additional support.
Children are encouraged to work through their conflicts and express their worries but sometimes they just need to get their concerns heard. That is where the magical tattle phone comes in! They can pick up this phone and share all of their woes.
Thanks for your support as we foster this social independence!
Our children explored centers, created art for the art show, had morning meeting, learned a new fire poem, had snack (raisins and popcorn) had outside play, had lunch, worked on journals, created more art and listened to a special Fire Cat story.
Remember we are going to the Fire Station on Friday at 10am, woohoo!
Thank you for all you do :)
Miss Carissa
