Chick Project, Day 14
Question of the Day: Does your name have the letter U in it?
STORY TIME
Have you heard this story before? What is your favorite part of the story? Why do you think I picked this story to read today? (Here is a clue: It has to do with the words in the title.)
Did you like this story? What does this story have in common with The Ugly Duckling?
LETTER of the WEEK : Uu
Start at the top of the paper with your marker. Make a straight long line down, make a small curve and continue with a straight long line up. Color in a bubble letter U. Sculpt it in the dirt outside, in salt or sand on a plate, shape it in dough. For a fun new dough mix UP 1/2 cup hair conditioner to 1 cup of cornstarch. For a smaller amount, try half that amount.
MATH
The Shape of the Month is an Oval like an egg!
The Number of the Month is 10.
We have 10 fingers on our bodies. What else do we have 10 of on our bodies?
Color in or put an X through the Egg Number 14 on your Countdown to Hatch Day Calendar. Using your pointer finger, touch and count each egg on your calendar and count. See if you can count all the way to the end!

Have an Egg taste test: scrambled, hard-boiled, and fried or soft-boiled. Which do you like best?
CREATIVE ART
Start a life cycle diagram on a piece of paper. Draw a hen at the top. Add on an arrow down to the middle edge of the paper and draw a nest with an egg in it. Continue with another arrow pointing to the bottom of the paper. Draw an egg with an embryo inside.

BONUS MATERIAL
UP and UNDER, two fun U words. Play a memory game by placing 10 items on a tray UNDER a fun cloth like a silky scarf or fun blanket. Point and name each item before covering the items. Have your child blind their eyes or look away (no peeking!) while you remove one of the items. See if they can name the item missing. Maybe you could find 10 U items (underwear, uniform, umbrella, toy unicorn, picture of an uncle, United States map, picture of the planet Uranus, U turn sign, Up arrow, cooking utensil, user manual, sea urchin, uppercase letter).
