January 6, 2020, Monday

We had a magical return to school today after a long holiday break!  The children returned to find a fairytale world and the 3 Bears Kitchen set up in our classroom.  What fun we will have over the next few weeks telling our stories!

We celebrated a friend's 5th birthday that occurred over the school break!  We made him a special giant birthday card and he shared a mini cupcake snack with us after lunch today.  A great way to begin our second half of the school year.

Our morning workshop tables were a Letter D challenge table where you could make a D with Diamonds, build it with HWT wooden pieces, write it with chunky chalk and erase it, and find it in a basket of letters.  We also had playdough with fairytale pieces and a 3 Bears story table where you could build chairs and tables and a even house for them if you wanted.

At morning meeting we had our tweet and greet, talked about our changing year and season and introduced our new Letter D.  We had a sharing circle where we passed the magic talking wand and shared with our friends an adventure story from our time over the long break.  Many of our friends traveled and we also heard many stories about bunk beds!

Our snack was cheese squares, veggie straws and fresh strawberries today.  After snack we did a walk through our changing classroom and talked about some new fun additions like our jungle drum and giraffe tent and our pond biome in the science room.

At center time we worked on our letter D page in our HWT workbooks and then headed outside to try to catch a few snowflakes.  The children organized and played a long game of Duck, Duck, Goose today outside.  A fitting game for D week.

After lunch we had some free play and then met in the science area to talk about what exactly a biome is and what biome we are studying and building in our room.  You can ask your child and see if they remember.  We read a book about Biomes and the story, In The Small ,Small Pond.  The children then were invited to draw a picture of their favorite animal that lives in a pond.  You can view these wonderful drawings on the bulletin board in the science room.
