Santa Claus is coming to town! The special presents that the children have been working on for their families are being packed home this week. Please let us know if you do not receive a gift from your child this week. Sometimes the tricky little elves move things around and things get missed. Never fear, we will find your gift as everyone has made a special gift.
Our morning started with a Christmas beading table, Christmas storytelling table, and Christmas tree decorating number mats. Our morning meeting time is being used to practice our pageant story and songs.
Snack today was fresh tomatoes, hummus, veggie straws, and cheese sticks. After snack, we headed into the Sanctuary to practice.
We had indoor recess today. The rain was too heavy to be outside today. The children painted Santa faces and some worked on putting body parts into their bony bodies.
After lunch we met in the math room and read The Night Before Christmas. Fun fact, a portion of this famous Christmas poem was written right here in Newport. The Clement C. Moore House is located on Catherine Street. We chose this story in the math room because it calls out in wonderful fashion the 8 names of Santa's reindeer. Our friends were given a reindeer with a number on it, and we tried to figure out its name as it was called to pull Santa's sleigh. We also talked about our shape of the month, the star.
After all that brain exercise, we needed to wiggle our bodies. We used some instruments and danced and sang to some lively Christmas music. Run, Run, Rudolph is a popular one and follows one of our feature letters of the alphabet this month.
We ended our day in the science room. We read the story My Five Senses and The Sweet Smell of Christmas. This is a perfect time of year to study the senses. It is a time filled with wonderful sights, smells, tastes and sounds.
