We are ask that all children have indoor
moccasins. Please provide plain moccasin slippers with a solid sole in either
navy blue or tan for your child. Moccasins are available at many local
retailers from Walmart and Old Navy to Lands End and LL. Bean.
In tradition of integrating
philosophy from a variety of theorists at EDS, the Montessori Method recognizes
the child's need for quiet and order in the classroom to allow him or her
greatest opportunity for concentrated work. The opportunity to take off and put
on shoes increases their level of independence and dressing skills.
Moccasins also eliminate a higher
noise level in the classroom. The children use rugs for a great deal of floor
work and slippers help to maintain the cleanliness of the environment, alleviating
mud and dirt being tracked into the classroom with street shoes.
Moccasins will become a part of
your child’s morning routine, upon arrival you will accompany your child to the
side hallway where they will retrieve their moccasins from the hook. They will
put on their moccasins and carry their outdoor shoes to their cubbies with
their backpacks. Followed by handwashing.
From now on outdoor shoes will
stay in cubbies until we go outside. Outdoor shoes must be either sneakers or
boots and do not have to match uniform dress code. Sneakers must not have
wheels, lights, glitter or jewels. Please no Toms, Sandals, Clogs or Crocs.

MOCCASIN UPDATE:

families are having difficulty finding the right size for their child,
